LA Foundation for the Arts (LAFA) is a non-profit service organization with an unwavering commitment to advancing, realizing, and preserving the vision of emerging and unrecognized art workers and administrators in Ghana through meaningful relationships with the wider African diaspora.
Our primary objective is to create new, sustainable opportunities and to empower individual artists by providing critical support, professional development tools, and resources for defining and achieving career success.
Our work is aligned with the mission of Ayéya (“life in balance”) and whose vision of empowering creatives within our community in order to break the cycles of economic injustice and gender inequality is one we share.
Ayéya endeavors to honor the virtuous circle between doing well as an enterprise and extending the same to the world. Their deep connectivity and roots within West African communities allows them to provide meaningful employment, while adding value to local economies by sourcing local ingredients and materials, preserving cultural knowledge, and bringing joy to life through beautiful and ethically crafted goods.
In recognition of our expansive collaboration with Ayéya on all facets of our mission, we have created the Ayéya Award, which is a prestigious award recognising the achievements of women creatives and women-led organizations, partnering them with mentors who will dedicate their time to supporting the women and turn their creative practice into a sustainable career .
